Bob was unemployed and applying for 25 jobs per week. He wanted to support his family, including his wife, who has medical issues. Spokane County Veterans referred him to Supportive Services for Veteran Families, which referred him to Goodwill’s Transitional Jobs program.

He attended classes through Transitional Jobs and worked at the Goodwill Outlet. Bob was soon hired by a local e-recycling agency, where he worked for a year and a half. When his place of employment closed its doors, Goodwill put him to work the next day.

“I went straight to Transitional Jobs … at the outlet through production and had no break in income. Goodwill has helped me to maintain my independence,” Bob said.

Through it all, Transitional Jobs helped with many things, including bus passes, work clothes, and shoes. Presently, Bob is working as a donation service attendant and is continuing to improve his independence.

“Goodwill employed me, and I am very grateful for that. I now have benefits, [which] is the best part. I haven’t had benefits since 2009, and I know that I can relax since I have this buffer.”
