Kristal: Building Independence at Goodwill

Kristal has worked at Goodwill for 12 years. Over that time, she has built strong skills, gained confidence, and learned what she can do on her own. Through hard work and dedication, Kristal has grown into a reliable and capable employee.

During her time at Goodwill, Kristal worked with job coaches who supported her along the way.

As she gained experience, she needed less help and became more independent in her work. She learned how to manage her responsibilities and take pride in doing her job well.

A Goodwill team member who works closely with Kristal said, “She is a leader and rule follower. She keeps schedules for everyone and reminds every one of their tasks and breaks. She is very independent and is a leader.”

Being recognized makes Kristal feel good. She enjoys what she does and likes the people she works with. Kristal is always willing to help and does not want to turn down opportunities to learn or grow.

Kristal feels she has accomplished a lot at Goodwill. The job has helped her become more independent and work toward her personal goals. Coming to work makes her happy, and she feels supported and respected.

Because of her commitment, growth, and independence, Kristal is being honored with the Goodwill Independence Award for the second time. When she learned the news, she felt shocked but proud. The award reminded her that others see how much she has grown and how capable she truly is.

Her journey shows how meaningful long‑term support and opportunity can be. Kristal’s story is an example of how Goodwill helps people build confidence, independence, and a future they are proud of.
