It’s scary to not know what tomorrow will be like when you are homeless. Will you have a place to sleep? And where? These were the thoughts in Kerry’s mind when he, his fiancée, and their baby daughter were homeless.
Without jobs, a car, or a place to live, they felt like life couldn’t get any worse. But how would it get better? All they could do was hope, and then one day things began to change.
Kerry went to Goodwill for help and joined the Foundational Community Supports (FCS) program. His case manager helped him apply for funding to get a home and helped him search for the right place to live. They also helped Kerry look for jobs and gave him rides to interviews until he was offered a job.
But Kerry wanted to do more with his life to support his family. So, Goodwill helped him apply for a CDL (commercial driver’s license) program. This was a big step for Kerry, because now he could go to college and have better career opportunities. The FCS program helped Kerry and his family financially, while Kerry worked to save money for a laptop and a car of his own.
“Their help has meant everything,” Kerry said, “It gave me the support I needed to start over and the encouragement to keep moving forward. I’m truly grateful for how far I’ve come, and I know this is just the beginning.”
Now, Kerry is working, attending church again, and his family moved into their own home in May. His fiancée and daughter had been living in East Wenatchee while he got help in Moses Lake, and now they are together under one roof.
Kerry said, “I’m so grateful for how far we’ve come and for Goodwill walking beside me on this journey. Without Goodwill, I would still be homeless and jobless, feeling like there was no way out.”
