Struggling with Unemployment and Depression
Peter was having a hard time in life. He was unemployed and spent most of his days playing video games. This made it hard for him to sleep at night. Peter tried to find a job, but he couldn’t keep one for more than a few days because he was struggling with depression.
Turning to Goodwill for Help
Peter knew he needed help, so he came to Goodwill. He met with a job coach who suggested that he try something called a Community-Based Assessment. This was a chance for Peter to learn new job skills and get paid while doing it.
Learning New Skills at Goodwill
During the assessment, Peter learned how to take in and sort donations that people gave to Goodwill. He worked hard, and his efforts caught the attention of a Production Lead at Goodwill.
A Job Offer and a New Beginning
The Production Lead was impressed with Peter’s hard work and asked if he would be interested in working for Goodwill. Peter was excited and said “YES!” With the help of his job coach, Peter applied for the job and received a recommendation from the Production Lead. Peter got the job!
A Bright Future Ahead
Peter started working at the South Hill Goodwill facility as a Donor Service Associate right after completing his assessment. He is now feeling hopeful about the future. Peter says, “Without Goodwill, my life would be stuck with no hope of moving forward and reaching my full potential.”
