Nelish started at Goodwill just four months ago, but he’s already made a strong impression. Before joining the team, he worked with a WFS case manager for almost a year to find employment. But they struggled to find him a job. When a position opened in the Goodwill store, his case manager asked the store manager to give Nelish a chance.
The manager gave him an interview and he was hired. At first, things were challenging. After the store hired Nelish part-time, he began to struggle. His case manager decided to contact the Idaho Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (IDVR) to try and get him more support, because he needed more training than the store could give him. And thankfully, they approved enough hours to give him the training he needed. That made a huge difference.
Now in his second month working in production, Nelish is learning how to sort clothing by size and style. Recently, he’s been learning how to tell the difference between men’s, women’s, and children’s clothes. With the store often being short-staffed, he’s been a big help working with the clothing.
“There’s a lot of things he can do,” his job coach shared. “He’s got a good personality, he’s cheerful. We’re buddies! He even comes looking for me if I’m running late. He’s very punctual.”
In a short time, Nelish has proven himself as a dependable and positive part of the team, showing that with support and determination, growth is always possible.
