Fernando Found Work, Stability, and Family

Lost in the search for work

Have you ever been without a job and didn’t know where to look for one? The process to get a job can feel hard. Sometimes you don’t know what kind of job you want, or what kind of job you have the skills for. And sometimes you struggle to keep a job for very long, going from one job to another. At times like these it’s helpful to have another person help you find a job. That’s what Fernando decided to do back in 2023 when he was having a hard time keeping a job.

Finding his way to Goodwill

He came to Goodwill to find support. A WFS Program Manager, Lynessa, welcomed Fernando and started off with the basics.

Together they wrote Fernando’s resume, cover letters for jobs, and practiced interviews. He used those skills to get a job at a local business, and even stayed in that job for one year. But after a while, Fernando realized that job was not a great fit for him. He wanted to start look for a new job. So, he went back to Goodwill and asked for help finding that next job, one that he would really enjoy.

The doors at Goodwill are always open

They worked together to re-open his case with Idaho Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (IDVR) and began looking for jobs around Post Falls. Fernando and Lynessa even went to local businesses together to pick up applications and talk to hiring managers. And that’s what worked.

On one of those days, they went to Little Caesar’s and spoke with the hiring manager, who hired Fernando during that visit!

Finally in a job he loves

He has now worked there for three months, and he loves his job. Little Ceasar’s treats him like he is part of a family and Fernando said that for the first time ever he loves his co-workers and his supervisors.

Fernando also said, “You guys (Goodwill) are awesome and I recommend you guys.”

We’re grateful to be part of Fernando’s journey to finding a job that he can keep for a very long time. It is stories like his that show us how a little support can go a long way.
