In March of 2023, Nicole reached out to Goodwill for some help finding a job. She connected with Goodwill’s Foundational Community Supports (FCS) program. The FCS program helps people like Nicole find stable housing and employment. And they teach important skills to help people succeed at work.
Working Together for Success
Nicole and her employment specialist worked together a lot. They spent time practicing interviews and creating a resume. And they went out together to fill out job applications and explore different job opportunities. Nicole admits that life before Goodwill was tough. She didn’t have much to do. But with Goodwill’s help, things started to change.
Learning and Growing with Goodwill
Nicole found herself learning new skills and gaining confidence. Goodwill provided her with work clothes, helped her build a strong resume and cover letter, and introduced her to a supportive community where she could share her thoughts on housing and homelessness.
The hard work that Nicole and her employment specialist put in paid off. Nicole found a job that she enjoys and is hopeful of reaching her future goals.
A Brighter Outlook
Since getting help from Goodwill, Nicole’s life has improved. She enjoys her job and feels more independent. With a stable income, she’s even able to buy Christmas and birthday gifts for her daughter—a luxury she couldn’t afford before. Having a job has given Nicole a sense of freedom and independence she didn’t have before.
Grateful for Goodwill’s Support
Nicole sums it up best: “Goodwill has helped me learn new skills and encouraged me to be independent, and I have made new friends.” With Goodwill by her side, Nicole is building a brighter future for herself and her family—one step at a time.
