Shawn was referred to Goodwill through the Idaho Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (IDVR). Before coming to Goodwill, he had employment services from another company, but it wasn’t the best fit for him. So, Shawn chose Goodwill for support.
Balancing Social Skills at Work
At first, Shawn struggled with completing tasks and following directions. He was very sociable, which made it hard for him to focus and finish his work on time. But Goodwill’s employment team worked with him to balance socializing while still being efficient at work. Shawn showed improvement very quickly!
Improving Money Management
Goodwill also helped Shawn learn how to manage his money better. This was something he had been working on, but he had lost the motivation to continue. Shawn’s employment specialist reminded him to take on each goal one at a time and that with patience and perseverance, success is possible. Soon, Shawn learned some tips and skills to better manage his finances.
Building Confidence and Pushing Through Challenges
Shawn showed great improvement in his abilities. When put in the right work environment, he accomplished a lot. He gained a new sense of confidence and developed a desire to do his best. Now, he pushes himself more often and works through his emotions when he faces a challenging task.
Grateful for Goodwill
Since getting help from Goodwill, Shawn is grateful for the support and the approach his employment specialist took with him. He learned a lot! Shawn says, “I am a hard worker and I like the quality of the staff at Goodwill. I felt like they were willing to work around my challenges more than other places.”
Today, Shawn is proud of how far he has come and thankful for Goodwill’s support.
