Alicia’s life turned upside down when she left an abusive relationship. She and her 7-year-old son didn’t have a home, and she didn’t know what to do next. Every day was a battle to find a safe place to sleep and enough food to get through the day. Alicia wanted to take care of her son, but she felt trapped in survival mode. She knew she couldn’t go back to her old life, but she didn’t know where to get help.
Then Alicia learned about Goodwill’s services. From the moment she walked through the doors, she felt compassion and hope.
She joined the Foundational Community Supports program. Her case manager helped her look for a safe place to live and a job. These things helped Alicia start to rebuild her life. For Alicia, it wasn’t just about getting a job or a home…it was about finding a future.
Today, Alicia’s life looks completely different. She has a job she’s proud of, her own apartment, and even a car. Her son is doing well in a school that gives him the one-on-one help he needs. Alicia doesn’t live in fear anymore. She feels like her life has meaning.
When someone asked Alicia what her life would be like without Goodwill’s program, she said, “I would still be struggling. I would be unhappy and still living my life in survival mode.”
Now, Alicia and her son have a second chance to grow, dream, and thrive.
