Before Bob came to Goodwill, he felt stuck. He knew he wanted to work and do more on his own, but he was not sure how to get there. What Bob did know was that he wanted a chance to learn, earn money, and feel proud of himself.
When Bob joined Goodwill’s Medicaid Supported Employment program, he found the support he needed. Goodwill gave him training and a job coach who worked beside him and helped guide him through each step. His coach would supervise him, show him new tasks, and encourage him to keep trying. With patience and support, Bob learned new skills and grew more confident in himself.
Over time, Bob began reaching his goals. He worked hard to become good at scanning books, checking media, and removing tags from clothing. Today, he has met every goal given to him, and that is something he is very proud of. Working three days a week has brought positive changes to his life. Bob enjoys earning money, it makes him happy to be able to work and support himself. He also enjoys the friendships and closeness he has found at Goodwill.
Bob says he is thankful to Goodwill because, “They gave me help to get a job, which changed my life.” What may seem like a simple opportunity for some people became a life-changing experience for him.
Bob’s Job Coach said he is a joy to be around, and that Bob always wants to do the best he can. “Bob is a wonderful individual and a joy to work with. He always has a smile that will light up a room, and he never has a bad word to say. I am happy to see Bob accomplish new tasks.”
After more than a decade in the program, Bob continues to inspire the people around him. His kindness, positive attitude, and willingness to learn show what can happen when someone is given the support, encouragement, and opportunity to succeed.
