Patricia remembers a time when everything felt like it was falling apart. She had reached a low point in her life. She had no resources and nowhere to turn. Again and again, she asked for help, but was turned away. It seemed like every door was closed. Still, she didn’t give up. Even when it was hard, she kept searching for a way forward. That determination led her to Goodwill.
When she connected with the Housing and Essential Needs (HEN) program, things slowly began to change. Patricia showed up ready to put in the work, and she stayed committed to improving her situation. She worked closely with her case manager, taking the steps to rebuild her life.
She received help with housing searches and rental assistance, but it wasn’t just about the services. It was about how she used them. Patricia stayed involved in every part of the process. She asked questions, followed through, and kept moving forward.
As she put in the effort, progress followed. She went from having nothing to building stability. She found housing and had the support to stay on track. Slowly, the stress and uncertainty began to lift.
This was a fresh start. When describing how her life had changed, she said, “Phenomenally. It is a second chance at life. I got a whole new start of a new life out of it.”
Her case manager said, “I am inspired by Patricia because of her drive to meet her own needs and goals. She is the perfect example of the active engagement we look for in the HEN program. She has had a rough go of it prior, but has continued to work hard, and wants to also give back.”
Now, Patricia continues to move forward, determined to build a better future. “I am thankful for Goodwill,” she shared, “because if it wasn’t for Goodwill, I would still be in the same position I was in. I call Goodwill my golden ticket. You still have to work to get there though.”
Through her effort and hard work, she turned a difficult chapter into a new beginning and proved to herself what she is capable of achieving.
