Before coming to Goodwill, Sarah felt like something was missing from her daily life.
“Life was boring,” she said. Sarah wanted more than just a routine. She wanted a chance to stay active, learn new skills, and be part of something meaningful.
Through Goodwill’s Medicaid Supported Employment program, Sarah found that opportunity.
She started to learn a variety of tasks that helped keep the store where she worked running smoothly. Her work included cleaning shoes, restocking shelves, hanging new clothing, checking items for damage, and scanning and putting out books for customers.
Sarah approached each task with care and a positive attitude. As she gained experience, she grew more confident in her abilities. And she liked earning her own money. Work also gave her a sense of responsibility and pride. She said that working at Goodwill, “makes me feel good about myself and I’m proud of myself.”
Just as important, she has found purpose in helping others and meeting new people. Sarah enjoys being around people.
Sarah’s story shows that success is not always measured by big changes. Sometimes it starts with finding a place to belong, gaining confidence, and discovering that your work matters.
Today, she is still building skills, earning her own money, and making a positive impact on the people around her every day.
