Before coming to Goodwill, Timothy was going through a difficult time. He struggled with addiction and was experiencing homelessness. After completing treatment, he was ready to rebuild his life. He signed up for benefits and came to Goodwill for support and a fresh start.
Timothy was determined to move forward. Through Goodwill’s Housing and Essential Needs (HEN) program, he got housing and moved into an apartment. It was the first time he had lived on his own as an adult. Having a safe place to live gave him stability and hope for the future.
When his HEN assistance was ending, Timothy signed up for Goodwill’s Foundational Community Supports (FCS) program for housing and employment services. He received help with housing while focusing on finding a job.
The job search was not easy. Timothy filled out nearly 100 applications and went to more than 20 interviews. He faced many setbacks along the way. Some interviews were disappointing, and some opportunities did not work out. Still, Timothy did not give up. He kept showing up, kept applying, and kept believing he could reach his goal.
His hard work paid off when he was hired at Indicana, a local restaurant. Timothy found a job as a dishwasher and quickly became a valued member of the team. He enjoys the supportive work environment and takes pride in doing his job well.
Today, Timothy is paying his own bills. More importantly, he believes in himself. There was a time when he thought his only option was to wait for Social Security benefits. Now, he knows he can achieve his goals through hard work and perseverance.
As Timothy shared, “No one’s ever helped me like this before. I don’t know where I’d be without Goodwill.” His employment specialist said, “Tim never gave up.” He trusted the process and stayed committed even when difficult things were happening.
Timothy’s story shows the power of persistence. Goodwill provided support, but Timothy did the hard work. By staying committed to his goals, he built a stable life and a future full of possibilities.
