Leahda found herself in a tough spot as a young adult. She was stuck in a bad situation with a toxic roommate, which led her to live part-time in a motel where she worked and part-time in her car. Life felt overwhelming, and she didn’t know where to turn for help.
Connecting with Goodwill
Thankfully, Leahda learned about services in her community in Moses Lake, Washington. That’s when she decided to reach out to Goodwill’s Foundational Community Supports (FCS) program for some guidance and support. The FCS program is all about helping people like Leahda find stable housing and employment.
A Lifeline of Support
Leahda enrolled in the FCS Supportive Housing program and, to her relief, found housing quickly. Goodwill helped her with move-in costs and applying for the Transition Assistance Program (TAP). TAP covers common barriers to housing stability, like fees for IDs, application fees, and move-in costs.
A New Beginning
With the support of Goodwill, Leahda finally had a stable and comfortable place to call home. She felt a huge weight lifted off her shoulders. Not only that, but she also learned to be more independent and proactive. Goodwill’s goal is to strengthen communities by helping people gain stability and independence, and Leahda is a living testament to that.
Gratitude for Goodwill
Leahda is incredibly grateful for the hand-up she received from Goodwill. Without the support, she doesn’t know where she would be. She feels supported knowing she can turn to Goodwill for help or connect with resources in Moses Lake. In Leahda’s words, “Goodwill’s like my own encyclopedia of all things resources.”
